Spyro Speedruns Cup (2021) Spyro Speedruns Cup (2021)

Spyro Speedruns Cup Supercard was a speedrunning event promoted by the International Spyro Grand Prix (ISGP), co-chaired by CrystalFissure and Nintendogen64. It took place between the Qualifying Round and the Quarterfinals of the Spyro Speedruns Cup (2021) and featured championship and contender matches for the titles sanctioned by ISGP.

Background

Spyro Speedruns Cup Supercard serves as a follow up to SPYRO KINGDOM (2021) as well as an intermission of sorts between the Qualifying Round and the Quarterfinals of the Spyro Speedruns Cup (2021). On the card for this event are title matches for the ISGP Championship, ISGP Tag Team Championship and Crassic Speedrunning Championship as well as a Number 1 Contendership match for the Crassic Trios Championship.

At SPYRO KINGDOM, MuddyMaestro successfully challenged TOTOzigemm for the ISGP Championship. In the process, he became the 3rd champion. Despite finishing in 3rd place overall for in International Spyro Grand Prix 2, he did not achieve a flawless record in Round 1. One man who did, however, was Muddy's fellow Group D member, DessertMonkeyJK. In fact, DessertMonkeyJK's 8–0 record in Round 1 of ISGP2 was impressive. He was becoming the second ever competitor to not lose a single race in Round 1 of a tournament (the first being Caitelady of ISGP1's Round 1, in Group A). DessertMonekyJK's 8–0 record also included a win over MuddyMaestro, thus further cementing his eligibility to challenge for the ISGP Championship.

The unlikely team of Amelia Kuchel and Yogamoanyo, collectively known as Punching Squirrels were able to defeat the reigning ISGP Tag Team Champion team Plesbians (Noel McDavid and Yeswally1) back at SPYRO KINGDOM. This victory crowned Punching Squirrels as the 2nd ISGP Tag Team Champion team in the history of ISGP; however, Amelia Kuchel's SPYRO KINGDOM campaign was not completely successful. In an impromptu tag team match earlier in the event, she and her Pythagoras' Angles teammate, CharmedSky banded together as the Parallel Pals to go up against the Golden Lovers (CrystalFissure and Nintendogen64). With the Golden Lovers victorious over the Parallel Pals, this extended the former's undefeated streak to 3–0. More importantly, they had defeated one half of the future ISGP Tag Team Champions. This series of events was able to confirm the Golden Lovers as the Number 1 Contenders to the ISGP Tag Team Championship. As a result, the match of Punching Squirrels vs. Golden Lovers for the ISGP Tag Team Championship was later signed for the Spyro Speedruns Cup Supercard.

During the Spyro Speedruns Cup, the long-awaited trios match between Pythagoras' Angles and Death Triangle took place to determine the #1 Contenders to Seethe Harbor's Crassic Trios Championship. This match proved to be rather controversial, however, as during the closing moments of the race, Alice Clarke experienced a race ending glitch that prevented her from collecting every gem in Spooky Swamp in Spyro 3. This glitch may have potentially allowed Death Triangle to pick up with win though this is contentious as despite ticking off 13 goals from the bingo board, Nintendogen64 and Fromond both appeared to have misclicked and not actually completed the requisite goals. In order to determine a true winner and the official #1 Contenders, the rematch has been sanctioned for the Spyro Speedruns Cup Supercard.
