The Road to World Tag League (2021) was a speedrunning event promoted by the International Spyro Grand Prix (ISGP), co-chaired by CrystalFissure and Nintendogen64. It is the second Road to World Tag League after the original event in 2018. The main event was an ISGP Tag Team Championship match between the champion team, Golden Lovers (CrystalFissure and Nintendogen64) and Team Randall (Fromond and James Jones.
Background
Death Triangle is a speedrunning faction consisting of CrystalFissure, Nintendogen64, Fromond and James Jones. At the Spyro Speedruns Cup Supercard Death Triangle members, CrystalFissure and Nintendogen64 - competing as their tag team, Golden Lovers - defeated Punching Squirrels (Amelia Kuchel and Yogamoanyo to capture the ISGP Tag Team Championship. At the same event, Fromond no showed a trios match against Pythagoras' Angles (Alice Clarke, Amelia Kuchel and CharmedSky) leading to Death Triangle replacing him with James Jones. Despite losing this match, the Golden Lovers were so impressed with James' performance they upgraded him from honorary member to full time member of Death Triangle. Conversely, Fromond's shaky performances as of late put his claim that he is "good at Spyro now" into serious jeopardy. At the 3rd Anniversary Event, the Golden Lovers offered up an ultimatum to Fromond: impress them with his performance in a tag team match with James Jones agains the Crosstown Boys (Lucas Bolton and MrGamesendy or be kicked out of Death Triangle forever. Despite losing the match, Fromond and James Jones - Team Randall - proved that they had an undeniable chemistry leading to both being able to stay as members of Death Triangle. Not only this but as an act of goodwill, the Golden Lovers offered Team Randall a shot at their ISGP Tag Team Championship and scheduled it for Road to World Tag League (2021).
In the lead up to the Road to World Tag League (2021) event, the ISGP Champion, MuddyMaestro, put out a call to all existing factions in ISGP that he was interested in joining one of them. Only Death Triangle answered the call but Muddy turned them down and instead elected to form his own faction and go after the Crassic Trios Championship. This unnamed MuddyMaestro Trio are scheduled to face the current Crassic Trios Champions, Seethe Harbor (Daniel Davidson, DantaFanta and DessertMonkeyJK) who look to make their second defence of the title after successfully retaining over Pythagoras' Angles at the 3rd Anniversary Event.
The 3rd Anniversary Event was a historic time for the Crassic Speedrunning Championship; at the event, Al Molloy defeated Xindictive to become the number contender to the title. Also at that event, KnightNC was able to put away the reigning champion, Marcus Terry-Bedford in a Spyro 2: Reignited Trilogy speedrun to become the new champion. Now, in a rematch from their "Double Return Handsome Battle" at the Spyro Speedruns Cup Supercard, Al Molloy will go one on one with the new Crassic Speedrunning Champion, KnightNC, with the title on the line.
Finally, in a high-profile triple threat match, the former members of Punching Squirrels, Amelia Kuchel and Yogamoanyo will face off against each other and MayoDr to determine which two competitors will team up in the World Tag League. Amelia and Yogamoanyo first teamed up in December 2020 at Road to SPYRO KINGDOM (2020) and would go on to have a very successful tag team run culminating in unseating Yeswally1 and Noel McDavid to win the ISGP Tag Team Championship. This run on top would not last forever though, as only 8 weeks later the duo would drop the titles to the Golden Lovers (CrystalFissure and Nintendogen64) as the Spyro Speedruns Cup Supercard. During this time, Yogamoanyo and his long time friend MayoDr had discussed the possibility of teaming up as well and in the lead up to the World Tag League it looked as though Yogamoanyo had a difficult choice to make: to remain with Amelia as Punching Squirrels or join his friend of over 10 years and re-unite YogaiDr. To solve this issue, the three decided to race in a triple threat match at Road to World Tag League (2021) where the top to competitors will team up in World Tag League.
