Super Gex League  SPYRO KINGDOM (2021) | |
Road to SPYRO KINGDOM was a speedrunning event promoted by the International Spyro Grand Prix (co-chaired by CrystalFissure and Nintendogen64. Road to SPYRO KINGDOM served as both a follow-up to the Super Gex League, and as a prelude to SPYRO KINGDOM (2021).
Background
On December 5, 2020, the Super Gex League ended with LukeRF44 outlasting Charity Royall, MuddyMaestro, and Lucas Bolton to win the league and secure himself a guaranteed title opportunity for any championship at SPYRO KINGDOM.
During the Super Gex League, tensions began to rise within the faction of Death Triangle. CrystalFissure and Nintendogen64 had expressed to Fromond their upset with his apparent lack of skill in speedrunning. They noted that, although he claimed to be good at Spyro now, he hadn't really accomplished anything since defeating Alice Clarke in ISGP 2. This, coupled with Death Triangle's loss to Triple D at Orb Struggle for the Crassic Trios Championship, put further pressure on the group's relationship. In an attempt to settle things and steer the group back in the right direction, Nintendogen64 and CrystalFissure declared they would reunite as the Golden Lovers to take on Fromond and a partner of his choosing. Fromond ultimately decided to pick James Jones as his partner, and the newly formed Team Randall would accept the challenge of the Golden Lovers for Road to SPYRO KINGDOM.
Gladiator and Daniel Davidson documented a rematch against each other, based on a past ISGP2 challenge gone awry.
The triumphant return of former World Speedrunning Champion Manaidr was documented. He would do battle against Yogamoanyo, his longtime rival.
The highly anticipated debut of Luminater (luminize and Skater6453) would take place at Road to SPYRO KINGDOM. They were supposed to go up against Speedy Soda with Lemon (DantaFanta and Kolapro), but Kolapro had to make a last minute dropout due to real life complications. Gentle Tauradonna Oathsworn, thirsty for combat in the realm of Spyro speedrunning after watching all of ISGP 2018 and having recreated its Grand Finals Bingo, volunteered to be Danta's Tag Partner for the Road To SPYRO KINGDOM event. Since Gentle's role was akin to an understudy, the ensuing union was at-the-time named "Speedy Soda with Garion."
The team of Alice Clarke and Lucas Bolton, dubbed the British Meanies, were successful in defeating liam desu and Xindictive in a tag team match at Orb Struggle. In the interim, Amelia Kuchel and Yogoamoanyo formed a bond out of friendly competition in both Amelia Kuchel's triple threat victory over Yogamoanyo in Orb Struggle, and the pair's controversial Draw in the Super Gex League. The team of Punching Squirrels, despite having never competed as a Tag Team previously, maintained an undeniable chemistry. This tag team match between Punching Squirrels and the British Meanies had enormous implications; the winning team would later face off against the current ISGP Tag Team Champions, Yes Lesbos (Yeswally1 and Noel McDavid), at SPYRO KINGDOM.
